PRIVATE SCHOOLS

Your donors get the credit. Your students get the scholarship.

For Private Schools

Scholarships Funded by Donors, Directed by Families

What this means for fundraising - a donor conversation you have never been able to have.

Every development office works within the same constraint: donors give from what remains after taxes. The EFTC changes the source. A donor directing $1,700 to a qualifying SGO claims that amount back as a credit against federal tax owed.

That reaches past your major gift list to every parent, grandparent, and alumnus who files a return. It does not compete with your annual appeal, because it does not come from the same pocket.

Where You Fit

Three ways to connect, and the fastest may already exist in your state

Partner with an existing SGO

The faster path for most private schools. An SGO in your state can accept donations with your school designated, then award scholarships to your families. You keep your development team focused on the annual appeal and capital priorities.

Build your own SGO

If your school or association already operates a 501(c)(3) scholarship entity, qualifying is a shorter step than it looks. This gives you control over criteria and designation.

Coordinate through your association

State and regional private school associations, including diocesan and denominational school offices, are well positioned to serve member schools as a shared SGO. If your association is exploring it, we should talk.
